In 1992, as part of the Veterans Health Care Act, Community Health Centers (“CHC”), along with other designated groups, known as “qualified entities,” were granted the ability to purchase discounted medications through a federal program known as the “340B Drug Pricing Program.” Over time the program has become known as simply, “340B.”
The 340B program is designed to provide patients of the qualified entities with access to highly discounted prescription drugs. All FDA approved prescription medications are part of the program. However, the legislation mandates many levels of compliance that many qualified entities and pharmacies find too difficult to understand, implement and monitor.
The compliance and regulatory hurdles and roadblocks of administering a 340B program can now be put in the past.
